Boycott Summary

Most of the criticism of ExxonMobil/Esso is on environmental issues. It publicly opposes the Kyoto climate change treaty. There are also complaints about unethical business practices and excessive political involvement (especially in the election of George W. Bush).

Editor’s Opinion

From what I read on StopEsso and the like, it sounds like ExxonMobil/Esso is pretty bad on climate issues. However, if I believe the company’s website (US Response | UK Response) they are very good on environmental issues. I suspect the truth is somewhere in-between. As I don’t drive, I can’t really support the boycott directly, but I may avoid them in the future.
